Cold & Snow Remedy

Paw soak recipe for ice, snow, and cold exposure

Cold weather, ice melt, and road salt can dry out and irritate your pet’s paws. A gentle Epsom Salt soak helps soothe soreness, reduce inflammation, and soften cracked skin after winter walks.

Recipe

Ingredients
  • Warm (not hot) water
  • Epsom salt (plain, unscented magnesium sulfate)
  • A shallow bowl, tub, or basin large enough for your pet’s paws
  • Towel for drying
Instructions
  • Fill the basin with enough warm water to cover your pet’s paws.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt per 1 cup of water.
  • Stir until the salt is fully dissolved.
How to Use
  • Gently place your pet’s paws into the solution.
  • Let them soak for 5–10 minutes (shorter for puppies or pets new to soaking).
  • Speak calmly and offer reassurance to keep them relaxed.
  • Remove paws and pat completely dry with a clean towel.
After the Soak

Once paws are dry, apply a thick, pet-safe repair balm to lock in moisture, protect the skin barrier, and support healing of minor cracks or abrasions. This step is especially important before bedtime or the next outdoor exposure.

Tip: If paws are severely cracked, bleeding, or painful, stop soaking and consult your veterinarian.
