Epsom salt crystals add the perfect DIY touch to holiday crafts, homemade gifts and décor. Make Epsom salt luminaries to light a pathway or line your mantel. Epsom salt, glue and paint are all it takes to transform Mason jars into festive utensil holders for holiday entertaining. Epsom salt can even bring an extra-special touch to handcrafted Valentine’s Day cards.

Create a winter wonderland on your windowpanes with Epsom salt “snow” or add a festive sparkle to Halloween pumpkins and Easter eggs—the possibilities are endless, but here are a few great ideas for holiday crafting with Epsom salt to spark your creativity:

Epsom salt frosted pumpkin fall décor

Materials:

  • Decorative mini pumpkins and gourds
  • Paint brush
  • Mod Podge®
  • Epsom salt

Directions:

  1. Paint the Mod Podge® onto your mini pumpkins and gourds. Apply around the top of the vegetables to look like real frost.
  2. Sprinkle a handful of Epsom salt onto your pumpkins and gourds until they are coated, then let dry.
  3. Enjoy your attractive fall display!

Shimmering holiday luminaries with Epsom salt

Materials:

  • Empty jars
  • Epsom salt
  • Blue and green food coloring
  • Paper plates
  • 3 small or medium bowls
  • Mod Podge®
  • Clear gloss sealer

Directions:

  1. Put 1 cup of Epsom salt into each bowl. Mix in 1 drop of food coloring. Place the blue, green and white Epsom salts on paper plates.
  2. Coat the jar in Mod Podge® and roll it in one of the salt colors. Coat the rim with Mod Podge® and salt. Let dry for 2 – 3 hours.
  3. Repeat for remaining colors. Finish with clear gloss sealer, following sealer’s instructions. When dry, fit with an electric tea light.
  4. Making for a party? These should be made no more than a week ahead of time.

Epsom salt festive holiday jars

Materials:

  • Mason style jar
  • White craft glue
  • Epsom salt
  • Glossy acrylic paint in festive colors

Directions:

  1. Pour Epsom salt in a dish. Using the glue, draw a star on the jar. Press the star into the dish of salt while the glue is still wet. Carefully remove the jar and gently wipe away any excess glue.
  2. Let dry overnight.
  3. Paint the jar using two coats of paint if needed. Dry overnight. Fill with fun napkins, straws and utensils to dress up your celebration.

Epsom salt snowball ornaments

Materials:

  • Styrofoam balls
  • Acrylic paint
  • Mod Podge®
  • Epsom salt
  • Toothpicks
  • Paper plates
  • Wire hooks (optional)

Directions:

  1. Insert a toothpick as a handle into a Styrofoam ball. Paint the ball with the color of your choice. Remove toothpick and let dry on a paper plate.
  2. Sprinkle Epsom salt on a clean paper plate. Insert another toothpick into the Styrofoam ball and coat with Mod Podge®. Roll the wet ball in the Epsom salt. Let dry.
  3. If desired, put snowballs on wire hooks and hang them. They will also look lovely in a basket, vase or a winter-themed centerpiece.

Home-made Valentine’s Day cards with Epsom salt

Materials:

  • Card stock
  • White craft glue
  • Epsom salt
  • Food coloring
  • Bowl

Directions:

  1. Put 1 cup of Epsom salt into a bowl. Add in food coloring and mix to desired hue.
  2. Add in another cup of Epsom salt and mix to create varying shades of color.
  3. Carefully fold the card stock. Draw a heart on the front with the white craft glue. Sprinkle the Epsom salt mixture onto the glue, shaking and wiping off any excess. Allow to dry overnight.
  4. Give to someone you love.
